What Is The Inheritance?
Remember this: "... if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise," Galatians 3'29.
It may sound incredible, but if you are a Believer in Jesus, you began receiving from God even before you expressed faith in Him.
The Lord has left everything concerning Himself, and all that He achieved, to every person "... who believes in Me," John 14'12.
It's the greatest of all legacies. And the Holy Spirit ministers it from the Father in Jesus' name.
Like salvation The Inheritance is both present and future. (The focus of this website is predominantly on The Inheritance in the present.)
Most Believers can look back to occasions when they felt that God had moved in their lives before they were saved.
These movings were the workings of the Holy Spirit. Genesis chapter one verse two shows the first instance of His moving:
"And the earth was without form and void;
and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters".
"Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light," Genesis 1'2-3.
So, the Spirit moves, God speaks the Word and the action happens. These words seem to reveal a pattern.
In the case of those who respond to the Spirit moving in their lives, Paul says:
"... if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation," Romans 10'9-10.
A number of powerful things happened then. 2 Corinthians 4'6 describes one of them:
"... the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness ... has shone in our hearts
to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ".
And here's the abundant nature of The Inheritance:
"... when the kindness and the love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us,
through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour,
that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life," Titus 3'4-7.
As it says, in God's kindness and love these things only happen because of two amazing characteristics: His mercy and His grace.
Christ's New Covenant Kingdom Inheritance is available because of them.
Now a new Believer can partake of the inheritance. The first thing to receive is the assurance of salvation, meaning they are saved and no longer a sinner.
This understanding is especially important because Satan is quick to attack a new Believer's mind and suggest otherwise.
This is when the Believer needs to understand that the Father:
"... has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love," Colossians 1'13.
The enemy aims to distract Christ's People from this powerful truth in order to gain access into their lives.
And Believers can give thanks, knowing that it is:
"... the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light," Colossians 1'12.
The scriptures of Acts 2'1 to Revelation 3'22 show instances of Believers learning, partaking by faith and experiencing the inheritance.
Among those scriptures that God has given is the Letter to the Hebrew Believers.
In chapter 5'12 to 6'2 the Spirit-led writer refers to having taught them "the first principles of the oracles of God" which he also calls the "elementary principles of Christ".
These oracles of God are essential for every Believer. And because he made a list of them they are available today.
Through the Holy Spirit they provide the basic understandings and experiences that the Lord left for all Believers to receive (see Your Kingdom Foundation on the Menu).
When Jesus intervened in the life of Paul (Acts 26'18), He commissioned him to go to Jews and Gentiles:
"... to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God,
that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me".
