"Hear Him!"

(The two most life-changing words a Believer can hear from the Father)

"A voice came out of the cloud, saying,

'This is my beloved Son,

in whom I am well pleased.

'Hear Him!'"

"... Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith ..."

Amazing things happened every day before the eyes of the Disciples who were following the Man who had called them.

Nevertheless, their perception of His importance needed to be brought into focus.

That focus came dramatically. Jesus had taken three of them up on what is commonly called "the mount of transfiguration" to pray.

To their dismay He was radiantly "transfigured" in front of them (Matthew 17'1-8, Mark 9'2-8, Luke 9'28-36).

In addition to that, Moses and Elijah appeared and a bright cloud began to descend.

Peter, James and John were startled and afraid. Nevertheless, Peter, being his usual forward self, thought that something had to be said.

What He said seemed to cause an another startling thing because "a voice came out of the cloud" (Matthew 17'1-8).

It was the voice of the Father. He began by declaring His whole-hearted approval of His Son and then He followed it with a command - "Hear Him!”.

For Believers, these are the two most meaningful words ever spoken!

Significantly, this call from the Father had been foreshadowed many centuries earlier. First century Israel knew well these words of Moses:

"The Lord said to me: ... ‘I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren and will put my words in His mouth and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.

And it shall be that whoever will not hear my words, which He speaks in my name, I will require it of him’”, Deuteronomy 18’17-19.

Following Pentecost Peter reminded them of it, saying that Moses' prophecy had been fulfilled by Jesus Christ of Nazareth:

"For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you.

And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people'.

To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities’," Acts 3'22-23.

Some time later Stephen also pointed back to Moses' words. On the day he was stoned to death he reminded the murderous Jews standing around him that:

"This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear',” Acts 7'37.
