Among those who own to being Christian the word "baptism" is used much more than "immersion". Nevertheless, "baptism" is not a straightforward translation from the Greek New Testament.

But it has become formalised and most Bibles continue it as a genuine rendering.

Sadly, this custom has only served to confuse the basic understandings and the powerful truths and understandings of what immersion is, especially in water.

"Immersion" is the correct translation of the Greek word baptisma which means submersion or immersion. Its verb, baptizo (bap-tid-zo), means to immerse or to submerge (Strong's concordance).

Obviously, "baptism" is not immersion and immersion is not "baptism"!
